Worksheet Overview

Many words in English are based on the same root words, and knowing what these mean can help us with spellings.

The suffixes -graph and -graphy indicate that the meaning of the word is linked to writing or recording something.

pencil drawing

for example:

photograph = an image recorded by a camera

bibliography = a list of books by a particular author or on a specific subject

The word 'geography' may not seem to be linked to writing and recording, but the study of the earth includes making measurements and writing descriptions.
