In this worksheet, students revise differentiating between the spelling and meaning of different homophones.

'Revise Homophones 1' worksheet

Key stage:  KS 2

Year:  Year 5 11+ worksheets

Curriculum topic:   English

Curriculum subtopic:   Spelling: Homophones

Difficulty level:

Worksheet Overview

Homophones are words which sound the same, but have different meanings. They often have different spellings too.

An example would be:

been ("I have been to the market.") bean ("I ate a green bean.")

Why does it matter?

Although homophones sound the same, the way you spell them shows what you really mean. If you use the wrong one in your writing, your reader could get confused and misunderstand you.

How can I improve?

Most people can learn the difference between homophones with a little practice on worksheets like this one. Also, reading more may help you to recognise the words in the right context.

Answer the following questions to improve your skill at using homophones correctly. You may need to use a dictionary to help you.
