Worksheet Overview

Boy reading a book

In the English language, there are many different words which can be used to discuss or describe the same thing.

Words with similar meanings to each other are called synonyms.

When we are reading, we might come across words and be unsure of their meaning. We could use a dictionary to help us understand the meaning, or a thesaurus to see other words with similar meanings.

Let's have a look at some synonyms for some common words:

girl smiiling

Unwell Boy in bed

Under the weather

Cold Boy blowing hands to warm up in hat and scarf

When choosing a word, we have to think about which one makes the most sense in our sentence, and which one makes it sound the most interesting!

Let's have a go at finding some synonyms for different words.
