'Make Predictions From Text' worksheet

Key stage:  KS 1

Year:  Year 1 English worksheets

Curriculum topic:   Reading: Comprehension

Curriculum subtopic:   Make Predictions

Difficulty level:

Worksheet Overview

A really important reading skill to have is to be able to make predictions.

Making a prediction is making a sensible guess about what might happen in a story or to a character. We can use clues in the text to help us make these predictions.

Question mark

Have a look at this question:

The hungry eagle was soaring above the land when it spotted a mouse scurrying through the forest.

an eagle flying

What do you think the eagle did next?

1) Carried on flying around

2) Tried to catch the mouse to eat it

The clue in the text here is that the eagle is hungry, so it is probably searching for food. We can use this information to help us predict that it is most likely to try to catch and eat the mouse!

Let's have a go at answering some questions like this.
