There are some words which are more challenging to spell and we can use a range of different methods to help us learn them. 

 

In this activity, we are going to look at the following list of words:

 

actual

appear

calendar

circle

describe

early

eight

fruit

guard

imagine

 

There are a number of ways to help you learn these spellings - you need to work out what works best for you! 

 

spelling

 

Here are some ideas:

1) Use a 'spelling voice' when saying the words e.g. CAL EN DAR, focusing on the AR sound at the end.

2) Make up rhymes to help you with the trickier parts e.g. OUR favOURite game is tag.

3) Be creative - make pictures or songs to help you.

4) Keep writing them over and over again or make the words with sticks or items around your house.
