Writing for a specific audience means you need to use carefully chosen vocabulary and techniques to suit the needs of whoever is reading or listening to your words.

It might be that your audience already knows something about the topic, or that they have never heard of the topic - regardless, you have to pick the right language to make sure you communicate with them appropriately.

For this activity, we will look at the ways we can choose this language and identify the effect it would have on the audience.

We will use this speech on gaming, so read it through and then get ready for the questions.

Hello, everyone!

Today, I want to talk to you about something many of us enjoy - gaming. You might think gaming is just about having fun, and you will definitely have been told by adults that you are wasting your time - but it's more than that. Gaming actually has so many positives that can help you in life.

Thinking and Problem-Solving: Games have tricky challenges that make you think and find solutions. It's like solving puzzles or making plans in games like 'The Legend of Zelda' or 'Fortnite.'

Teamwork and Talking: Some games need you to work with others and talk to them. This helps you learn how to work in a team, talk clearly, and reach a goal together. These skills are important in all sorts of situations.

Being Flexible and Not Giving Up: In games, you might lose or face tough parts. But you learn to change and not give up. This is useful for everything you do in life.

Being Creative: Gaming lets you be creative. You can build your own worlds in games like 'Minecraft' or enjoy exciting stories that make you imagine different things.

Feeling Better and Relaxing: Gaming is like a break from stress. After a long, hard day, playing games helps you relax and feel better.

Meeting People and Making Friends: Online games let you meet people from all over. You can make friends and learn about different cultures.

Jobs in Gaming: Did you know you can have a job in gaming? You can develop games, compose music for games or even become an E-sports player! Gaming can lead to cool careers.

In short, gaming isn't just fun; it helps you grow as a person. It teaches you skills that are super-important in real life. So, next time someone says you're wasting time gaming, remember all the good things you're learning. Thanks for listening and have fun gaming!
