In this activity, we will be looking at circles split into quarters. 

 

Circles can be split into four parts like this:

Quarters are when a whole shape or object has been split into four equal parts. 

Equal means exactly the same.

So a circle split into equal parts means four parts that are exactly the same size. 

Here is a circle split into equal parts which means it is split into quarters.

Can you see that each part of this circle is exactly the same size?

 

Sometimes we need to find one quarter of a circle. This means that the circle must be split into quarters and one of the quarters will be shaded in like this:
