Know Your Multiplication and Division Facts for the 4 Times Table

In this activity, we will be multiplying and dividing numbers by 4. 

To identify the result of a division, we can use a multiplication fact to help. 

Let's take the fact 8 × 4 = 32.

We can write this in two different ways:

4 × 8 = 32

8 × 4 = 32

Using this multiplication, we can also write two division facts:

32 ÷ 4 = 8

32 ÷ 8 = 4

Did you notice how the same numbers appear in all four equations?

They are just rearranged! 

Let's look at an example

Example

Find 24 ÷ 4.

Answer

We know that 24 is in the 4 times table. 

4 × 6 = 24

We can rearrange the digits to make the following division.

24 ÷ 4 = 6
