In this activity, we're going to be converting between different units of measure.
Things we need to know:
There are 10 mm in a cm
There are 100 cm in 1 m
There are 1,000 m in 1 km
There are 1,000 ml in 1 l
There are 1,000 g in 1 kg
mm = millimetre
cm = centimetre
m = metre
km = kilometre
g = gram
kg = kilogram
ml = millilitre
l = litre
We can use the information above to help us answer the questions in this activity.
It is useful to learn this information and keep it in your head!

Let's have a look at an example:
Convert 13,000 m into km.
We know that there are 1,000 m in 1 km.
To convert m to km we simply need to divide 13,000 by 1,000
13,000 ÷ 1,000 = 13 (all the digits move 3 places to the right)
Now let's look at another question - this time as a word problem:
Verity has a 2 l bottle of cola
She drinks 3 glasses of the cola.
Each glass holds 250 ml
How much cola is left in the bottle?
First, we need to convert the litres to millilitres.
2 l = 2,000 ml
Each glass holds 250 ml
3 x 250 ml = 750 ml
Finally, subtract 750 from 2,000
2,000 - 750 = 1,250 ml
Now, why don't you have a go at some questions?
