In this activity, we're going to be converting between different units of measure.

**Things we need to know:**

There are 10 mm in a cm

There are 100 cm in 1 m

There are 1,000 m in 1 km

There are 1,000 ml in 1 l

There are 1,000 g in 1 kg

mm = millimetre

cm = centimetre

m = metre

km = kilometre

g = gram

kg = kilogram

ml = millilitre

l = litre

We can use the information above to help us answer the questions in this activity.

It is useful to **learn this information** and keep it in your head!

Let's have a look at an example:

Convert 13,000 m into km.

We know that there are 1,000 m in 1 km.

To convert m to km we simply need to** divide** 13,000 by 1,000

13,000 ÷ 1,000 = **13** (all the digits move 3 places to the right)

Now let's look at another question - this time as a word problem:

Verity has a **2 l **bottle of cola

She drinks **3** glasses of the cola.

Each glass holds **250 ml**

How much cola is left in the bottle?

First, we need to convert the litres to millilitres.

2 l = 2,000 ml

Each glass holds 250 ml

3 x 250 ml = 750 ml

Finally, subtract 750 from 2,000

**2,000 - 750 = 1,250 ml**

Now, why don't you have a go at some questions?
