In this activity, we will be using all four operations to solve problems involving measure.

 

Things we need to know:

60 minutes = 1 hour

1,000 ml = 1 litre

1,000 g = 1 kg

100 cm = 1 m

 

Let's have a look an an example:

 

Bananas cost 13 p each.

Zac has £1.60

How many bananas can he buy and how much change will he get?

 

Answer

£1.60 = 160p (100 p = £1)

160 ÷ 13 = 12 r 4

Zac can buy 12 bananas and will have 4p change.

 

In this question, we needed to convert pounds to pence, divide and find a remainder!
