a pocket watch

Information we need to know:

60 seconds = 1 minute

60 minutes = 1 hour

24 hours = 1 day

7 days = 1 week

52 weeks = 1 year

365 days = 1 year (there are actually it is 365¼ days in one year)

Let's have a go!

How many hours are there in 1 week?

We know there are 7 days in one week and 24 hours in one day.

The calculation we need to do is 7 x 24

7 x 24 = 168

There are 168 hours in one week.

girl thinking

Let's look at another one:

A film lasts for 2¼ hours.

How many minutes does the film last?

We know there are 60 minutes in one hour.

There are 120 minutes in 2 hours (2 x 60)

There are 4 quarters in one whole so there are 15 minutes in ¼ of an hour (60 ÷ 4 = 15)

120 + 15 = 135

The film lasts for 135 minutes.

family watching tv
