'Find the Volume of a 3D shape' worksheet

Key stage:  KS 3

Year:  Year 7 Maths worksheets

Curriculum topic:   Geometry and Measures

Curriculum subtopic:   Use 3D Shape Knowledge to Solve Problems

Difficulty level:

Worksheet Overview

In this activity, we will find the volume of cubes and cuboids.

You will need a calculator!

The volume of  a 3D shape is how much room it takes up!

Let's start with a cube!

a cube of sides 5 cm

The area of one side of this cube is base x height:

5 x 5 = 25 cm

To find the volume, we multiply this area by how deep it is (it is a cube, so it is 5 cm deep):

Volume = base x height x depth

Volume = 5 x 5 x 5 = 125 cm3

Let's do a cuboid!

a cuboid with sides 4 cm, 5 cm and 3 cm

The area of one side of this cuboid is base x height:

3 x 4 = 12 cm

To find the volume, we multiply this area by how deep it is (we can see from the diagram it is 5 cm deep).

Volume = base x height x depth

Volume = 3 x 4 x 5 = 60 cm3

Let's try some questions.
