In this activity, we will be looking at ratio.
Ratio is a relationship between two amounts showing the number of times one value is contained within the other.
Imagine that we had a jar of sweets and 1/4 of the sweets were white and 3/4 of the sweets were pink.
The fractions give us a proportion of the full jar, but we can write them as a ratio.
This is a proportion in terms of each other.
Therefore, white is 1 part and pink is 3 parts.
We can write it as 1:3
White : Pink is 1:3 Pink : White is 3:1
Does that make sense?
Don't worry - we'll practise some questions together and you'll soon get the hang of them.
