Worksheet Overview

In previous activities, we have looked at the typical mathematical words used in algebra.

We used the word 'term'. Can you remember what a term is?

It is part of an expression, so for example 5 or y or 2e are all terms.

Together, if we want the sum of them, they form the expression:  5 + y + 2e

In this activity, we will be identifying terms and getting used to using them in expressions.

A typical question is like this:

Which of the expressions in the bubble are equivalent to 4y?

selection of different expressions in algebra

Answer

4y is made up of y + y + y + y

So we can say 2y + 2y or 3y + y

The others will not equal 4y.

Let's try some questions!
