In this activity, we will convert units of temperature using a formula.
You will need a calculator!
We have two standard measures of temperature in this country.
We used to use Fahrenheit (o F), which is still used in the USA.
We now mostly use Celsius (oC), which is used in most of Europe.
There is a formula to convert between them:
Celsius to Fahrenheit
Fahrenheit (oF) = Celsius (oC) x 1.8 + 32
Fahrenheit to Celsius
Celsius (oC) = (Fahrenheit (oF) - 32) ÷ 1.8
Let's look at a typical question.
Example
Convert 22oC into oF
Answer
We use the formula: Fahrenheit (oF) = Celsius (oC) x 1.8 + 32
oF = 22 x 1.8 + 32
oF = 39.6 + 32
oF = 71.6oF
Are you happy with that?
Then let's try some questions.
