Practise Matching Main Characters and Themes with Book Titles

The title of a story or book is very important as it tells the reader what it might be about, helping them to decide whether or not to read it. 

Usually, the title is linked to the main theme, character or event in the book. 

You probably know the story of 'Goldilocks and The Three Bears'? They are the main characters so they are in the title! And how about Harry Potter? Again, he is the main character, so his name is in the title. We can learn a lot about the type of story we are about to read just by its title! 

When we write a story, we might choose to name it so that readers can decide whether or not they would like to read it. It is important that we make sure the title gives away enough information that a reader has an idea of what it might be about, but not too much so they want to read it to find out more! 

Fiction books might have a title which tells us about the main events or characters in a story, such as:

The Adventures of Sally the Sausage Dog

The Talking Broomstick

The Worm and the Slug

Non-fiction book titles will usually tell us what kind of information or facts we might find out about inside, such as:

101 Facts about Dinosaurs

All About Sharks

What Victorian People Wore
