A really important reading skill to have is to be able to make predictions.

 

Making a prediction is making a sensible guess about what might happen in a story or to a character. We can use clues in the pictures or text to help us make these predictions. 

 

Have a look at this question:

 

What might happen next to this cat?

 

Cat in a tree

 

1) It will jump down from the tree. 

2) It will start to sing and dance. 

 

Which answer would be the most sensible here? Well, we know cats can't sing and dance, so it is more likely that it will jump down!!
