'Learn How to Spell Some Common Exception Words' worksheet

Worksheet Overview

For lots of our writing, we are able to use our phonics learning to sound out words when spelling them.

There are other words which are exceptions to these spelling 'rules' and they cannot be sounded out. We just need to learn them by sight!

We are going to practise spelling some words which are commonly read and written in our writing, which is why they are called common exception words!

Let's have a look at a few examples.

The words are :

after

father

beautiful

Click the sound button to hear the words.

None of these words can be sounded out phonetically. Sometimes, it's best to just have a go and look at a word to see if it looks 'right'!

Let's have a look at some words that have been spelt incorrectly and edit them to make them correct.
