Practise Spelling Some Commonly Misspelt Words

In this worksheet, students will practise spelling some commonly misspelt words (forty, rhyme, rhythm, soldier, suggest).

Worksheet Overview

There are some words that many of us find difficult to spell.  They are really important for our writing though, so we need to practise them.

In this activity, we are going to look at the following five words and practise spelling them:

forty

rhyme

rhythm

soldier

suggest

You can listen to them here:

We need to pay special attention to rhyme and rhythm.  We often get these two spellings mixed up.  They are both musical terms.

Rhyme is when words have a similar ending ( like cat and mat), or a poem or tune made of rhyming words (like a nursery rhyme).

Rhythm is the beat of a song.

Spend a few minutes looking at these words before beginning the questions.

You could use Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check to practise them before we begin.
