Convert Measures of Time

In this activity, we will be converting units of time involving seconds, minutes, and hours.

 

 

Information we need to know:

1 minute = 60 seconds

1 hour = 60 minutes

 

Example

How many minutes are there in 3 hours?

We know that there are 60 minutes in one hour.

We need to find 3 lots of 60 to find the answer:

3 x 60 = 180

There are 180 minutes in 3 hours.

 

Let's look at one more question.

 

 

An egg takes 2 minutes to boil.

How many seconds does the egg take to boil?

We know that there are 60 seconds in one minute.

In 2 minutes there are 120 seconds (2 x 60 = 120)

The egg takes 120 seconds to boil.
