Worksheet Overview

Look at this travel graph, showing Anna's journey from home one morning.

Travel graph

The horizontal axis shows the time and the vertical axis shows how far away from home Anna is at any time.

Let's look at some questions about her journey.

1. Using the graph above, how long was Anna away from home?

We can see that she was 0 km from home at both 7.00 and 11.00. This means that she was at home at those times! So, she left home at 7.00 and arrived home at 11.00. She must have been away from home for four hours.

2. What happened to Anna's speed at 8.00?

We can see that the line slopes upwards less steeply between 8.00 and 9.00 so we know that she slowed down.

3. At what point of her journey was Anna stationary?

The line on the graph is horizontal between 9.00 and 10.00 which means that she was stationary then.

4. How far away from home did Anna go?

The highest that the line goes on the vertical axis is 15 so we know that she went 15 km from home.
