'Calculate the Volume of a Cylinder' worksheet

Key stage:  KS 3

Year:  Year 8 Maths worksheets

Curriculum topic:   Geometry and Measures

Curriculum subtopic:   Use 3D Shape Knowledge to Solve Problems

Difficulty level:

Worksheet Overview

In this activity, we are going to find the volume of a cylinder.

a cylinder

Volume of the cylinder = the area of the circular end x length

We need to first find the area of the circular end:

Area of circle = π r2

So the formula for the volume of a cylinder is: π rx the length

Let's have a look at a typical question.

Example

Calculate the volume of the cylinder shown below in cm3 to 1 decimal place.

Radius 2 cm

Length = 8 cm

 volume of cylinder

Answer

Radius r =  2 cm

Length = 8 cm

Volume = π rx length

Volume = π x 22 x 8

Volume = 100.5309......

= 100.5 cm3 (1 dp)

Let's try some questions!
