Before a butterfly becomes a fully grown adult it has to do go through various different stages of life. It starts off as an egg, then spends some time as a caterpiller (or larva) before changing into a chrysalis (or pupa). A fully-grown butterfly then emerges from the chrysalis.

 

The picture below shows these stages. Look at the picture and then see if you can identify each of the stages.
