Let's imagine we are building an electrical circuit to light up a bulb.
First, we start with the battery that gives power to the circuit.
We then get the wires and connect one end of the wire to the plus end of the battery (+ the positive terminal).
We then connect the other end of that wire to the light bulb.
We then get another wire and connect one end of the wire to the light bulb.
Finally, we connect the other end of the wire to the minus end of the battery (- the negative terminal).
This is a complete circuit and the light should light up!
You could add a switch to the circuit to control the light by turning it on and off, if you wanted to.
