GODS AND GODDESSES

Ancient Egyptians worship many different gods and goddesses; more than 2000! These gods and goddesses are often half-human and half-animal. It is important to pray for all these different deities to keep happy and well because different gods and goddesses have different jobs.

God Ra is the sun god with a hawk's head. He is born anew every morning and makes the sun rise, travelling across the sky in his boat. Goddess Tefnut is God Ra's daughter. She is the goddess of rain and water, so if you wish to have rain, you need to pray to Tefnut. She has a lioness' head.
