Worksheet Overview

Whenever you have to write something, you have to consider the purpose (why you are writing) and the audience (who you are writing for).

One of the best ways to see what to do, is to look at good pieces of writing and see how vocabulary has been used.

In this activity, you will look at a piece of writing and work out what words have been chosen, what they mean and why they have been used.

Have a read of the text we will use and then get ready to answer some questions!

autumn scene

Nestled in the heart of the countryside, a bustling farm comes to life with a symphony of activity. As the sun rises, casting a warm golden hue over the sprawling landscape, the farm awakens to the rhythmic pulse of life.

Fields of vibrant green stretch as far as the eye can see, adorned with rows of crops standing tall and proud. The air is filled with the earthy fragrance of fertile soil and the sweet scent of blooming flowers that border the fields. Tractors and ploughs hum in harmonious unity, carving intricate patterns into the land, preparing it for the season's crop.

Animals roam freely, their contented bleats, clucks, and moos creating a lively cacophony. Chickens scratch the earth for insects, their feathers ruffling in the gentle breeze. Cows graze lazily, their rhythmic chewing accompanied by the occasional lowing. A colourful array of barns and pens house a diverse population of livestock, each contributing its unique charm to the farm's tapestry.

At the heart of the farmstead, the farmhouse stands as a beacon of hospitality. Smoke rises from the chimney, signalling the morning ritual of a hearty breakfast for the workers. The farmhouse door creaks with the continued ebb and flow of people moving with a clear sense of purpose. The clatter of pots and pans mix with the noise of tools and the whirring of machinery and add to the sounds.

Amidst the organised chaos, a bustling market area springs to life. There is a kaleidoscope of fresh produce, handmade crafts, and the rich aroma of freshly baked goods. A steady stream of customers gathers, their laughter and conversations weaving through the air, creating a sense of community and shared purpose.

As the day moves on, the farm becomes a living organism, each element contributing to the greater whole. From the fields to the barns, from the animals to the farmers, the synergy of life pulsates through every corner of this busy farm, making it a vibrant and thriving hub of agricultural activity.
