Recognise Subject and Verb Agreement

When you are writing, you had to make sure your work makes sense grammatically. 

Did you spot the error in that sentence?

It should have been 'you have to make sure'.

This is called subject verb agreement. It means the subject (thing) in the sentence has to agree with the verb (action).
