A key element of writing for an audience is identifying the purpose for which you are writing.

Understanding the intentions behind a text can help you to ensure that what you write, and the way you write it, is suitable for your specific audience.

In this activity, we will look at some examples of purpose and how this purpose links to the audience. We can also begin to understand the effect the purpose will have on the audience.
