Worksheet Overview

people

Communicating in English means using written or spoken language.

Most often, if you need to communicate in a formal manner, you would use formal written English.

pen

This means you select advanced and ambitious vocabulary, avoid contractions and colloquialisms and make sure that you use an appropriate degree of formality.

If you are communicating in an informal manner, this would fall to spoken English.

boy calling

This means you would choose more relaxed and friendly vocabulary, use contractions, colloquialisms and even slang.

Of course, that doesn't mean you can't have formal spoken language, and informal written language, it all depends on the purpose and audience; what and who you are writing for!

In this activity, you will look at a variety of purposes and audiences and decide on the best form of communication.
