Everyday objects around us are all made out of different materials.
What a material can do is known as its property.
We consider the material's properties when choosing what material to use for different objects.
Here are a few properties as examples and what they mean:
breakable - can break easily
waterproof - does not absorb water
flexible - can move and bend
shiny - light is reflected in the surface
absorbent - soaks up water or liquid
Here is a picture of a knife and fork.
The knife and fork need to be strong, waterproof and last a long time.
Metal is a good material to use to make these as its properties are that it is strong, waterproof and hard-wearing.
Let's think about the properties of different materials and practise choosing which material is best for different objects.
